The Erskines spent a week at home following surgery. They enjoyed having extra support from Greta’s Mimi and Grandpa Erskine, who visited from Colorado. Grandpa Erskine and Papa Leshan teamed up on improvements to Greta’s room, and Grandma and Mimi got some extra time with Greta at the hospital. Grandma reported that at their first visit post-op, Greta greeted them by saying, “notice anything missing?” (namely her leg).
Greta’s PT is going well and she has named her stump “Fred.” She was initially scared to do any kind of movement because of the trauma of the broken leg, but she is gaining confidence every day and her team is happy with her progress. She was instructed not to try to walk yet, but she has been able to stand with the walker on her own, and shuffle to the wheelchair or commode. Greta also enjoys working with Coach Dad on exercises to strengthen her right leg. She’s mostly just a little anxious about new things, but all things considered, she’s terrific! ❤️
This weekend the family will celebrate the holidays and prepare for a return to doctor appointments next week when they will learn more about scheduling for upcoming chemo. In the meantime, Greta and Zoe have been working on friendship bracelets. The Erskines continue to be grateful for the ongoing and overwhelming support they receive from family, friends and their community!
Special shout out to the parents who organized many of Greta’s soccer team members (Go Flaming Hot Cheetos!) and classmates, who gathered in the Erskine’s front yard chanting support for Greta and carrying signs with messages of encouragement, for farewell to the leg party in the front yard.
