A great week.
Saturday night Greta was discharged from the hospital after her last chemo treatment! While the family is happy to be leaving the hospital behind, they will miss all of the healthcare workers who helped Greta with such kindness. As a departing gift, the nurses presented Greta with a giant banner that read, “You Did It Greta!” with notes from everyone (photo).
The fun didn’t stop there. Once they finally made it home (the Woodward Dream Cruise created some challenging re-routing), Greta found the house had been decorated by her family, with banners and balloons. Though it was past 9.00pm by then, she was wide awake for celebrating, and opening congratulatory gifts from family, friends, and nurses (photos).
On Sunday, the family continued the “No More Chemo” party with Korean bbq, and then a 3-D movie (photos). And on Tuesday, after a clinic visit for some checks, she was practicing soccer with her prosthetic! (photo).
While chemo is done, the work continues. They need to plan for removal of Greta’s chemo port, setting up physical therapy, and starting school…
Tonight the family will meet with Greta’s teacher, principal, academic specialists. It is going to be a lot for Greta to return to after all she’s been though (and will continue to go through), but they will carefully plan for accommodations, including excused absences.
Most importantly, Greta is really looking forward to school!
