Happy Valentines Day!
Since our last update, Greta was released from the hospital (last Thursday). Though the family is happy to be home, Greta continues to battle nausea and vomiting after her latest chemo treatment. She has had to make a couple of visits to the clinic for fluids and nausea meds because she can't keep anything down. As of today's clinic visit her kidneys are doing well, even though they've been working hard between chemo and dehydration.
Despite these struggles, Greta was able to celebrate the big 1-0, her 10th birthday, at home yesterday! She's officially double-digits! She had a lot of surprises in store, starting with bedroom decorations and pastries when she woke up. She had school and neighborhood friends visit with birthday wishes and gifts, and was able to read the birthday messages everyone posted here and elsewhere. There was an ice cream cake and giant birthday card from her friends, who had nearly all of the 4th graders sign.
The big surprise was a care package from the Detroit City Football Club (DCFC). The package included a personalized team jersey and a video with everyone from players (both women's and men's teams), coaches, and DCFC staff sending messages of support. As a soccer player herself, and big fan of the DCFC, Greta was really excited (photo of Greta watching the video).
The family's current goals are to get Greta's nausea under control, and to keep her hydrated and keeping food down. They'll be tightening-up visits to ensure she doesn't pick up any germs, and expect to have next week off from chemo. Everyone's support has been huge spirit-boosters for the family during these challenging weeks -- they/we really appreciate you!
