Catching-up: July 20
Thank you for your patience as we figured out the best platform for updates following PostHope’s sudden end. Most of the previous updates have been added as “Archive” blogs, but moving forward will all be new updates.
So what have you missed?
There were some delays in the chemo schedule in early July because Greta’s platelet levels were not high enough to proceed safely. While everyone was sad about the delays, it was good to know that Greta’s wellness was the priority and that doctors would ensure her body was able to handle the treatment before subjecting her to it. Despite the low platelets, she was feeling well enough to join “Wednesday Lunch Bunch” with Grandma, Papa, Aunt Amy and Zoë.
The family celebrated Independence Day with friends, where Greta dominated cornhole, and got to meet a baby. The holiday weekend events didn’t stop there: Greta visited Grandma and Papa, and then had a movie date to see Despicable Me 4.
The latest chemo treatments have gone well, and Greta seemed to have fewer side effects compared to the harsher drugs. She participated in the hospital art activities such as drawing and spin art, met some visiting dogs, and dazzled Grandma and Papa by playing the piano on Papa’s phone. While she’s been feeling better during the treatments, her discharges have been slightly delayed because her creatine levels (kidney function) were not low enough.
Prosthetics appointments have also been going well, and after several fittings, Greta was able to take her new leg, “Ned,” home! She wowed the hospital staff this week at chemo by walking around with Ned. (And continues to impress everyone with her gorgeous fingernails.)
In addition to the chemo and prosthetics appointments, Greta has been keeping busy. She attended a Make-A-Wish anniversary party at the hospital, redesigned her bedroom, and made cake mix blondies. Alex and Zoë even got Greta’s DCFC jersey signed by players!
Greta was discharged late last night after her latest chemo, and the last round is scheduled to start on Monday. We’re keeping fingers-crossed for no delays. Once chemo ends, she and Ned will start physical therapy three times per week.
